WOW!

What an amazing child I have. This was in our church newsletter.
Tom’s Turn—Will You Be Where God Needs You?
Just before worship last Sunday morning we got some very special news. I said something about it just beforemy sermon and promised to find out more.We have a hero among us!Yes, I know. We have lots of heroic people right in our midst, people who do so much more than they could ever be equired to do, who pour themselves out for other people. But this time I’m referring to a hero in the sense we more commonly use it – a person who, by his (or, in this case, her) courage and clear thinking and gallantry, saves another.Twelve-year-old Chase Hardee, who we have watched grow uphere at FW1st, was in Dallas last Saturday night. She and some of her friends were attending a convention designed for young girls. They were excited because it was an opportunity to stay in a big hotel and do all sortsof other fun things. Her mom says she didn’t have herpermission to be up running around as late as she was, but then, you know what happens when we get that first chance to be away from our parents.Apparently quite late, Chase and a friend were on the elevatorand were holding the door open for someone they thought was soon to return.(I believe she told me this happened on about the eleventh floor.) Standing there holding the elevator for this person who, as it turned out never returned, they heard loud voices. Without ever intending to be part of what was going on, they saw a young man and a young woman arguing. The young man left the young woman in anger and, before Chase and her friend knew it,the young woman climbed up on a ledge above the hotel’slobby and atrium over one hundred feet below. The youngwoman’s grief over her relationship with her boyfriend prompted her to try to kill herself. And here were these two little girls, watching. Now I don’t know about you, but I think that when I was twelve, if something like that had happened to me, I would have been pretty freaked out. I’d like to think that maybe something I’d learned in church or in Boy Scouts would have prepared me. But I’m pretty sure I would have been rather freaked out. Maybe Chase was too, last Saturday night. But if shewas, she didn’t let it get in her way. She responded. She responded! A twelve-year-old girl in a dangerous situation(actually two twelve-year-olds) approached a twenty-year-old woman and sought to help. They were not trained counselors or psychologists. They simpley saw a very real and immediate need and realized that someone needed to help. So they stepped up and did it. I’ve got to sit down withChase sometime soon and ask what was said and how they accomplished the task. But the long and short of it was that they talked that poor distraught woman off that ledge. They kept her from a horrific mistake. They saved her life. Now I could say that God worked it all out, planning for Chaseand her friend to be breaking the rules and staying up too late, planning for them to be right there at just that moment. That may or may not be the case. Who knows the mind of God? But I do know this: God, workingthrough the continuing revelation in Jesus in the church and in good parents and through helpful teachers at school, prepared the heart of Chase Hardee—prepared her to be able and willing to notice the distress of another person, and preparedher to have the courage to step forward and do what was necessary. For that we can give thanks. And we can say,“Chase, we’re proud of you!!”I’ll see you and your guests next Sunday.
To prepare, please read John 3.1-17.Peace,Tom

Memorial Day

What a wonderful Memorial Day we had this year. Everything started off slowly. We actually got to sleep in. That alone is fantastic.

Once everyone got moving we had to run to Academy because I just could not squeeze into my old swim suit. I tried but I am not back to my pre-pregnancy size or shape. After a depressing time trying on suits I found one that was not half bad. And away we went.

After we stopped and got drinks we went to our friends house for swimming and burgers. The food was delicious and the company was great as always. The kids enjoyed playing while we sat next to the pool and talked.

After swimming we went back home for a little nap before heading out again. Mando went out fishing with a few of his friends and the kids and I went to my parents house for dinner. My brother makes the best smoked brisket.

We had a wonderful day filled with good food, great company and happy kids.

Tue

Yesterday we got a new dog. Mando goes on a fishing forum frequently and they have posts that have nothing to do with fishing sometime. Well this one happend to be a free to good home post.

This little dog wandered into some peoples yard about two months ago. They tried to find his home but no one claimed him. They talked with their neighbor about taking him and they agreed. They said they would have kept him but they have 3 very large dogs and were worried about him being safe with them. So the neighbors asked if they could wait until they got their back fence fixed before they took him. Not a problem, his new found owners said. After a few weeks of fixing the fence it was complete and the little dog moved next door, only to constantly find a way to make it back to his new found owners. So the man listed him on the fishing forum where we found him.

He has the best personality. His only problem is that he sprays things. He will learn that is only allowed outside.

He had his first run in with a chicken this morning in the backyard. Poor chicken was so scared she complained for about 20 minutes afterward. He will learn that chasing chickens is not allowed as well.

He desperately needed some grooming. He is not finished yet but he is about half the dog he used to be. I am having to go in stages because his fur was so matted that I could not brush through it.

His new name is Tue.

So Mando and Greg went out to Lake Fairfield on Sunday.

Fingernails

Isa painted her nails today. She was so proud.

Don't they look beautiful.

Reading time

Henry was getting a little fussy while I was cooking so Isa ran off and got a book to read to him. It was so cute watching her name off the animals and try to show him the pictures. By the time I got the camera she was getting sidetracked. This will be a wonderful memory.

La Gran Plaza

On Sunday we went to La Gran Plaza to try to find a shirt for Mando.
We came across this huge inflateable play area. Isa was thrilled.

The play area was $3.00 for 20 minutes. Well worth it for the amount of fun Isa had.

This slide started at the 2nd floor of the mall.

Then she got to ride the Elmo car.
They had all kinds of rides for kids but we didn't stop at most of them. It will give her something to look forward to the next time we go.

Botanic Gardens

On Saturday we went to the Botanic Gardens for a plant sale but we missed it. We ended up just wandering around the gardens with the kids.

Isa always enjoys smelling the flowers
Chase, Isa and Erica found a log to rest on
The girls kept getting after Isa for throwing pennies in the ponds.

They liked looking at the waterfalls.

By this time Isa was sweaty and thirsty.

We can't go anywhere without some kind of electronics.
Henry was enjoying the gardens as well

When we got back to the van it would not start. Mando had accidentally left the keys in the ignition. We were fortunate that someone had just parked next to us. He offered to jump the van. These were by far the nicest people at the gardens that day.

Isa took this time to run and play some more. She found a rock that she says is shaped like a foot.

Overall we had a wonderful time just wandering around and talking.

Fishing

Mando and his friends have been out catfishing.

Here is Mando with a 30 lb catfish.

Lance, Greg and Mando. This is just what they brought home. They threw back at least this many.

Isa, Sophia, Chase and Erica.
Isa is not afraid of anything. No one else wanted to touch them. She sure is strong.

Fish Fry

Nearly 2 weeks ago we had a fish fry here in our back yard. As always Mando caught and cooked the fish and it was wonderful.
There were a number of babies that attended this time around.
This is Tina with her son Christopher

This is Sharon with her sons Samuel and Gabriel and her daughter Adrianna. Victoria and Daniel are behind her.

Our friends Joel and Andrea came this time. Joel brought his mother who was down for a visit. She is one of the sweetest women I have ever met.

Brianna loves to pet Juno even though she always stinks.

Here are all the babies together. They are going to grow up to be great friends.
Their birthdays range from Feb. 22 to Mar. 11.

Henry, Samuel, Gabriel and Christopher.

And here we are.

Busy Days

I know I keep saying I will keep up with this but it seems like I will never catch up. There have been so many things going on lately that I never have enough time to sit down alone. It's really hard to type when feeding a baby.
Here is a picture of Henry sitting on our bed. My mom said he looks like an M&M.

Isa has taken every opportunity available to play outside. She is not a child that can stand to just hang out inside. We decided to play hopscotch on the driveway in the back yard. She is getting very good at jumping into the squares. She used to just jump all over the drawing and then announce that she had won.

Henry sat quietly next to her and observed.

Mando took a picture of Henrys foot and his hand. He will never be that small again.

We went to church and everyone wanted to hold him. It actually caused a problem because I did not want him to be passed around. Too many people are sick this time of year and if one person gets to hold the baby then everyone wants to. When I say no it's nothing personal. My grandma got to hold him though. He was 2 weeks old here.

Then we went to the park to feed the ducks. Isa had been begging for about a week.

Here we are just hanging out at a friends house.

On Thursday Isa had to go to the Dr. She had been complaining of an ear ache. For her they usually turn into ear infections. The doctor could not find anything wrong with her. So we did a rapid strep test even though there was nothing wrong with her throat. It came back negative. She decided she needed a nap in the office.

The next day Henry had his 1 month appointment. They asked how Isa was feeling. I told them she was fine. No complaints at all.
Henrys appointment went well. He is 97% for height and weight. They all commented about how big he is. When the nurse had to give him his shot she actually had to lay across his legs to hold him down. She couldnt believe how strong he is. On Friday he weighed 11 lbs 11 ozs.
Later on Friday the nurse from the doctors office called and said Isa did have strep. When the rapid strep came back negative they did the long test and it came back positive. She has been on antibiotics for a few days now and is so happy that her ear doesnt hurt anymore. It's strange how kids feel pain sometimes.
I will try to post some other pictures and stories a little later.
